A large industrial association representing approximately 400 members approached Pivotal Solutions with a unique dilemma. The issue at hand was to explain to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) the nature of buying cycles for prime quality steel products used in the manufacture of Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts for the auto industry. Key elements of these buying processes involved purchases of prime quality steel products through International Buying Houses due to the limited quotas allocated by the Engineering Development Board (EDB) for these products. Through a collaborative approach, Pivotal Solutions was able to bring all stakeholders including Customs authorities together, and after extensive consultations, relevant notices were issued by FBR to resolve the matter. This not only removed a major irritant for the association and their members but also for other major industrial consumers of prime quality steel products.

An overseas chemical manufacturer was supplying their products to Pakistan customers through indents issued by their local office. Pivotal Solutions was asked to provide a detailed analysis as to whether the company could move away from the indent based business model and import their products in their own name. The products would then be supplied to their customers on demand as and when needed, essentially reducing order cycle times considerably. A feasibility study was requested keeping in mind import requirements as well as associated costs of transportation, warehousing, and distribution. A through analysis was provided by Pivotal Solutions which helped the client make an informed decision.

An international conglomerate approached Pivotal Solutions through a local partner to conduct a costing exercise on the import of Power Generation equipment for supply of electricity to the National Grid. A key consideration in this exercise was the element of local manufacturing as communicated by the Engineering Development Board (EDB), which disallowed certain tax exemptions under the Fifth Schedule to the Pakistan Customs Tariff, which would in turn have a major impact on the cost of the project. Another major consideration was whether used equipment could be imported under the Import Policy as communicated by the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) for used equipment. Through a detailed analysis, Pivotal Solutions was able to provide accurate and actionable information to the client enabling them to make an informed decision on how to proceed.
